Office Manager

Full time, hourly

Pay: $21 - $26 DOE

Our local, independent, and family-owned plant nursery is hiring an office manager.

This position’s main duties are office administration, customer service, accounting, and payroll. Responsible for assisting customers with inquiries, account information, and other clerical duties to meet business objectives. Provides ongoing guidance to staff as appropriate. Completes accounts payable and accounts receivable. Candidates should be interested in plants and gardening but prior experience is not necessary.

Responsibilities:

  • Acts as the primary contact for the office; answer emails and calls.

  • Assists employees with onboarding, payroll, and other general HR responsibilities.

  • Accounts payable and accounts receivable and other standard accounting activities including financial reporting.

  • Insurance procurement and claims management related to liability insurance and workers comp.

  • Supply inventory and ordering; employee uniforms, office supplies, janitorial supplies.

  • Inventory, ordering, and purchase orders for some retail items.

  • Assists with basic IT troubleshooting; communication with IT contractor.

  • Keeps permits and licenses for business operation up to date.

  • Plans company events, such as end-of-season picnic and holiday party.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Skills and Competencies:

Technical & Financial: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workplace, basic bookkeeping, payroll management, and accounts payable/receivable.

Organizational: Strong time-management abilities, multitasking capabilities, and the capacity to prioritize workloads under pressure.

Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to liaise with staff, customers, vendors, and leadership.

Leadership: Problem-solving skills, trustworthiness, and the ability to foster a positive, productive work environment.

Desired Qualifications:

  • At least 3 – 5 years’ experience in administrative and clerical work.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Management preferred, but significant administrative experience can substitute.

  • Experience using Quickbooks Online.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
